Why Jose?

Jose de Francisco is the Chief Designer at Nokia Software and the Deputy Head of Nokia’s Technology Center in Chicago. His professional experience encompasses interdisciplinary leadership responsibilities in strategy, product management, research and new ventures. Award-winning designer and a Distinguished Member (DMTS) of Bell Labs for work on next generation platforms and applications for mobile networks. Jose holds several active patents and has worked on projects in 20+ countries. He has served with the Advisory Boards for MIT’s Institute of Data, Systems and Society (IDSS) and IIT’s Entrepreneurship Center, and is currently involved with CMP’s Design & Innovation, a think tank supporting the leading Design Thinking conference series in the United States. Jose holds several professional certificates in Design and Data Science from MIT, an MBA in International Marketing and Finance from Chicago’s DePaul University as a Honeywell Europe Be Brilliant Scholar, as well as postgraduate degrees in Human Factors Engineering and Business from BarcelonaTech (UPC) and Ireland’s University College Dublin (UCD) respectively. He started his academic life at Barcelona’s Massana Art & Design Center’s Industrial Design program as an Epson Scholar.
