David Proeber is a forward-thinking leader and design practitioner focused on establishing user-centric culture, strategic product planning, and disruptive innovation initiatives. He is currently supporting the evolution of a 100-year-old industrial tool brand by building out the organization’s first Design & Innovation team. The team’s focus is on establishing product brand consistency, providing unified user experiences (both physical and digital), and constructing an innovation pipeline to support the next generation of industrial tool solutions.
David earned his Bachelor of Science in Design: Industrial Design from Arizona State University, where his core focus of study was around design research. His professional career as a designer concentrated on design research, design strategy, concept generation, and core industrial design at Wilson Sporting Goods and Milwaukee Tool. He’s spent time as an educator at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and is encouraged by sharing his experiences and best practices with students.
David has been credited with 40+ granted patents, with more in the pipeline. He believes a solution is only as good as the problem it ultimately solves, with the end user at the center of all decisions. His passion for design is not in the individual solution but rather the cohesive experience that should be expected from the end user.
Patience is key when we talk about changing culture across established organizations and environments. It is important to recognize that, whether or not you are a design leader, you cannot possibly be everything for everybody right away, especially in today's environment. Incremental innovation will happen naturally with the right focus, strategies and goals in place, but this will all take time to flourish into something sustainable. Join Dave as he shares case studies, lessons learned and best practices around practicing design patience while continuing to motivate teams through challenges rooted in economic uncertainty.
